Cut and Caps
Clear Choice Energy Services is dedicated to providing reliable and innovative cut and cap solutions designed to meet the unique challenges of well abandonment. Our focus on advanced technology ensures precise, efficient, and environmentally sustainable results tailored to your specific needs.

Internal Hydraulic Cutting System (IHC):
The IHC system is an ideal choice for remote or hard-to-access locations. By eliminating the need for water, this method reduces environmental impact while maintaining exceptional precision. Its 360-degree cutting head efficiently slices through casing strings and cement, simplifying stump removal and minimizing logistical demands with minimal equipment requirements.
Abrasive Water Jet Cutting (AWJ):
For larger casings, including thermal wells and conductor barrels, AWJ offers a powerful and effective cutting solution. Combining high-pressure water with abrasive materials, this method creates precise, clean cuts while maintaining environmental integrity. AWJ is particularly suited for demanding projects that require heavy-duty cutting capabilities.
Conventional Wellhead Cut and Caps (Excavation):
For projects requiring a more traditional approach, we also provide Conventional Wellhead Cut and Cap services, ensuring flexibility to accommodate a variety of site conditions and requirements.
At Clear Choice Energy Services, we combine advanced techniques with a commitment to safety and sustainability, delivering cost-effective and dependable solutions for every well abandonment project. Let us provide the expertise and precision you need for successful decommissioning.

OUR CUT AND CAP PROCESS
Conducting a Comprehensive Site-specific Hazard Assessment
Before starting, we conduct a thorough site-specific hazard assessment. This vital step ensures a safe operation by identifying and mitigating potential risks.

Accessing the Wellbore
To prepare for the cutting process, the top section of the wellhead is removed if necessary, providing unobstructed access to the wellbore.

Precision Cutting with Internal Hydraulic Cutter Tool (IHC) or Abrasive Water Jet Cutting (AWJ)
Our cutting process utilizes two advanced methods to suit different project needs:

-
Internal Hydraulic Cutter Tool (IHC):
A cutting head is lowered to the required depth, where hydraulic force is applied to pierce the casing. The cutting head rotates at approximately 60-90 RPM, delivering precise cuts. Depending on casing size and weight, this process typically takes 25-45 minutes. Safety remains paramount, with all personnel kept out of the marked no-go zone during cutting.

-
Abrasive Water Jet Cutting (AWJ):
For larger casings, such as thermal wells or conductor barrels, AWJ technology combines high-pressure water and abrasive materials to achieve clean, accurate cuts. This method ensures environmental integrity while efficiently handling more robust casing sizes.

Safe Stump Removal
After the cutting process, the stump is lifted with a front-end loader. While removal is generally straightforward, frozen ground or excess cement may require hydro-vac assistance or excavation to loosen materials around the casing.

Secure Well Capping
Our friction-fit well cap, featuring the UWI inscribed on top, provides a reliable and environmentally secure seal for the abandoned well. This critical step prevents contamination and ensures long-term site safety.

Site Restoration
The final phase involves backfilling the hole, leveling the ground, and restoring the surroundings to a pristine state. Our meticulous restoration process ensures the site is left visually undisturbed, with no trace of the wellhead's presence.
